I bought the Samyang 85/1.4, but I wish I had gotten the 85/2. It would have saved me some. However, I got the 105/2.5 as well, which I highly recommend.

Great set of images, must have been fun. Been interested in this sport for years, as a climber the ability of free runners to use their bodies and find often original ways to cross difficult and varied terrain was similar to what we did on rocks and to a lesser extent in the urban buildering sport that is all but impossible in these paranoid times. My coveted first ascent of Canterbury Multi storey carpark likely to get me shot nowadays. Good to see some people doing it here and as it is a discipline as you say it is not the pose that so many "trendy" sports can and do become. There is no way to just pretend this skill. Good to see. damon

Nice, Zen like emptiness to some of those photos. Looked like a nice warm sunset too. The detritus-strewn beach is a shame to see but then again it is a feature of some Japanese coasts. Love the Tsuzuki grass shot. Looks like a nice relaxing day out. In need of one of those myself.
At least on that size they look less noisy than my similar shots. I know Nikon is better for AF at low light, but maybe noise too? Also you have FF while mine is 1.6x crop, so that'll definitely help some.

If you take great shot, please share. Here's one of my favorite from last summer US Nationals at Atlanta: http://www.patana.fi/Temp2/Atlanta/IMG_8901.jpg

Hi Tero. That is more or less the kit and settings I used, so I guess the gym was well let. To be honest though, I don't mind noise that much myself. It can add a bit of atmosphere. The only thing I do is sometimes used the remove noise tool in Lightroom.

Kendoka have a lot of presence. They make great portrait subjects. In fact, you have just given me an idea . . .

Great shots! Is the D700 noise that good, or was the gym well lit? If I shoot F2.8 1/500 ISO1600 with my gear, they'll come way under exposured and bumping up the exposure will bring out the noise. Your pics look so nice and clean!

Timing the shot is something that takes practice (and luck). I think I have some 40-50k kendo taikai shots, and finally I'm getting the hang of it :) Also on addition to actual match shots, I've started loving those people shots outside the matches. Like the one you have with the guy tying up his himo.
